Walking in the Light: Washed in the Blood of Jesus

This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Walking in the Light
God’s Radiant Nature
In 1 John 1:5–7 we find a powerful message straight from the heart of God: “This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all,” it proclaims.
God isn’t just a source of light, He is the light. God is pure, holy, and untainted by even a shadow of evil. This truth sets the foundation for everything. In a world dimmed by sin, God shines in His glory, unchanging forever.
The Test of Fellowship
The passage challenges us next: “If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth,” it warns. Claiming closeness with God while clinging to sin is a hollow boast.
The darkness of sin, rebellion, and self deceit cannot coexist with His light. Our lives must align with our words. True fellowship with Him demands honesty. It’s not about perfection, but direction. Are we turning toward Him or hiding in the shadows?
The Cleansing Blood
The hope of God’s Word abounds: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”
Walking in the light connects believers to each other in love and truth. Better still, the blood of Jesus continually cleanses us. We stumble, but Jesus restores. His sacrifice doesn’t just cover sin but washes it away, keeping us in step with God’s holiness.
Step Into His Light
Today, embrace God’s light. Examine your walk, find where darkness lingers, and let it go. Seek the cleansing blood of Christ and the fellowship it brings. Live transparently before Him according to His Word, for in His light, we find fullness of life.
OFG Prayer of Faith
Heavenly Father,
Show me where I walk in darkness, and lead me to walk in the light and truth of Your Word. Cleanse me with the blood of Jesus, and draw me into fellowship with You and all believers.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
