For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence

Colossians 1:16–18 (KJV)

The Supremacy of Christ

Creator of All Things

Colossians 1:16–18 proclaims the supremacy of Christ, “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible… all things were created by him, and for him,” it declares.

Jesus isn’t merely a teacher or prophet—He is the Creator. Jesus is the source of everything, including the heavens and all principalities and powers. All things exist by His power and for His glory. Nothing stands outside His sovereign design.

Sustainer of Existence

The passage continues, “And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” Jesus not only created but sustains all things. The universe holds together because He wills it.

Every breath we take, every moment of life, depends on His sustaining power. He’s not distant or detached. He’s directly involved, upholding creation with the same power that formed it. This truth anchors us, enabling our lives to rest securely in His hands.

Head of the Church

Further, it affirms, “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” As the risen Savior, Jesus Christ alone leads His Church.

He’s not just the Church’s figurehead but the source of its life, direction, and purpose. His resurrection proves His authority, ensuring His rightful place above all. Every aspect of our faith points to His preeminent glory.

Jesus Our Lord

Today, recognize Christ’s preeminence. He created you, sustains you, and leads you as part of His Church. Let no counterfeit usurp His place. Submit to His headship, trust His sustaining power, and live for His glory. In Him, you find purpose and eternity.

OFG Prayer of Faith

Dear Lord Jesus,

Thank You for being my Savior, and I acknowledge you as the Creator, Sustainer, and Head of the Church. Help me honor Your preeminence in all things, living in faith and devotion.

In Your name I pray, Amen.
