The Narrow Way: Choosing the Correct Path With Jesus

Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
An Important Choice
The Two Gates
In Matthew 7:13–14, Jesus presents a stark choice: “Enter ye in at the strait gate.” Two paths lie before us, each with its own gate, destination, and travelers. The wide gate opens to a broad road, easy to find and crowded with people
It promises comfort, freedom, and no resistance, but Jesus warns it “leadeth to destruction.” This is the worldly path of least resistance, rejecting God’s truth for convenience. Many choose it, drawn by its appeal, yet it ends in spiritual death.
The Narrow Way
In contrast, the narrow and constrained strait gate leads to a path few take. Jesus says “narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” This isn’t a popular route. The narrow way demands sacrifice, obedience, and trust in God over self.
The word “strait” implies restriction, a deliberate choice to turn from sin and align with Christ’s teachings. Temptations pull us back, and the world scoffs, but it leads to eternal life, a prize worth every step.
Choosing Wisely
Jesus doesn’t coerce us to the narrow way, He calls us. The narrow way requires intentionality. Few find it because few seek it, yet it’s open to all who choose it in faith and obedience to God’s commandments.
Unfortunately, the broad way is the default for many because they didn’t take heed and make a wise choice. Jesus calls us to choose the narrow way that leads to life and shun the broad way that leads to destruction.
The Lord’s Way
Today, examine your path. Are you drifting with the crowd or walking with Christ? The strait gate and narrow way may appear confining to those without understanding, but it’s where true freedom and life abound. Trust Him to guide you through.
OFG Prayer of Faith
Heavenly Father,
Help me choose the strait gate and narrow way, even when it’s hard. Give me strength to resist the broad path, and the faith to follow You to life everlasting through all trials and difficulties I may encounter along the way.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
