Patience in Faith: Going the Distance in the Christian Walk

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Patience and Perseverance
Hold Fast to Confidence
Hebrews 10:35–39 urges believers to endure in faith: “Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward,” it begins. Confidence in Christ isn’t fleeting boldness but a steadfast trust in His promises, carrying the hope of eternal reward.
The pressures of life, including doubt, hardship, or fear, can tempt us to waver in our faith and convictions. Yet, we’re called to hold firm. Our faith isn’t built on shifting sands but on the unshakable truth of God’s Word.
The Need for Patience
The passage continues, “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” Faith requires endurance. Doing God’s will isn’t always met with instant results.
Patience keeps us anchored when answers delay, trusting God’s timing. The promise of salvation and eternal life isn’t a distant hope. It’s a certainty for those who persevere, grounded in Christ’s finished work on the cross.
Living by Faith
The Holy Spirit affirms, “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him,” referencing Habakkuk 2:4. Faith defines the righteous. It’s not mere belief but a life oriented toward God’s faithfulness.
Drawing back by retreating in fear or unbelief grieves God. Yet, the passage ends with hope: “But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.” We’re called to press forward, trusting Christ’s sufficiency.
Run with Endurance
Today, don’t cast away your confidence. Persevere through trials, knowing your faith has eternal reward. Lean into patience, live by faith, and trust God’s promise. You’re not one who draws back. Run the race with endurance, anchored in Christ’s unchanging love.
OFG Prayer of Faith
Heavenly Father,
Strengthen my confidence in Your promises. Grant me patience to endure and faith to live boldly for You. Keep me from drawing back, and guide me to Your eternal reward.
