By tracing the history of the Babylonian and Roman Empires, the rise of the Roman Catholic Papacy, and the development of these modern religious unity movements, we expose the satanic agenda to create a one-world antichrist religion and warn believers to stand strong against this sophisticated end-times deception.
Introduction
Mystery Babylon the Great
In modern times, Satan has been working fanatically to forge a universal one-world religion through the modern ecumenical and interreligious movements in fulfillment of Bible prophecy concerning “Mystery Babylon the Great.” These movements are working to align the world’s major religions into a unified apostate religious system the King James Bible calls “the great whore” and “Mystery Babylon” (Revelation 17:1–6 KJV).
These efforts are not only confined to modern history. This prophesied religious system revives the ancient Babylonian mystery religion, now prefigured in the Roman Catholic Papacy. The ancient Babylonian religion has taken various forms over the ages through historical transmission from Nimrod’s Babel and Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon to the Roman Empire and the subsequent Roman Papacy.
This apostate religious system, to be fully revealed in the last days, works in conjunction with a centralized, overarching governmental and economic control system known as the Beast System (Revelation 13:1–4 KJV). Its purpose is to enslave the world’s nations under the authority of the coming world ruler—the Antichrist and “Beast.”
Mystery Babylon is the name of the final totalitarian system that will dominate all nations during the second half of the Great Tribulation. During this time, an individual called the “second beast” (Revelation 13:11 KJV) and “false prophet” (Revelation 19:20 KJV) will lead the one-world religion and direct the unified governmental world empire to enforce the worship of the Beast (Antichrist) through the image and Mark of the Beast.
The Ecumenical Movement
What is Ecumenism?
The words “ecumenism” or “ecumenical,” based on the Greek word “oikoumene” (the whole world), refer to the unity of the Christian Church. These terms were originally applied to the joint councils (ecumenical councils) of the eastern and western branches of the Church held throughout history but are now recognized in the modern “ecumenical movement.”
The modern movement officially began in 1910 with the International Missionary Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, initiating the call for unity among Protestant denominations in the context of world missions. Meetings leading up to this conference date back as early as 1854, with major Protestant denominations unifying around world evangelization in ecumenism for the first time.
The World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) was also established in 1912, with initial founding as the Evangelical Alliance at London’s Freemasons’ Hall in 1846. This ecumenical organization consists of 9 regional and 161 national church alliances with over 600 million members. It has strong ties to the United Nations, with active engagement in programs, and offices at the UN Headquarters in New York, Geneva, and Bonn, Germany.
The next major development was the establishment of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in 1948, initially bringing together 147 churches, with member churches now numbered at 356, representing up to 600 million people collectively. The WCC is aligned closely with the Papacy and UN through the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the WCC Ecumenical Office to the United Nations (EOUN).
Vatican II and Ecumenism
The Great Reversal
The Second Vatican Council (Vatican II), convened from 1962–1965 by Pope John XXIII, was the next and most significant event in the history of the ecumenical movement. It was framed as a benevolent effort to modernize Catholicism but in reality was the launch of a carefully calculated reactive strategy to centralize all Christian denominations and world religions under the Papacy’s control.
As a result of position shifts introduced in Vatican II, ecumenism was applied to all Christian groups and denominations once rejected by the Papacy due to schisms and former ecumenical decrees. This universal “movement toward unity” maneuvered the Papacy into alignment with the existing ecumenical movement through the Vatican II papal decree Unitatis Redintegratio.
Unitatis Redintegratio
The Vatican II ecumenical decree Unitatis Redintegratio (Restoration of Unity), promulgated on November 21, 1964, reversed Catholicism’s damning position on Protestants and Orthodox Christians. The decree branded Christian divisions as contrary to Christ’s will, mandating Catholics to pursue a policy of ecumenical unity despite historical papal dictates and prior council positions.
This was a direct assault on decentralized faith, aiming to reimpose papal authority over churches that had long rejected papal primacy, including Eastern and Oriental Orthodox branches and historic Protestant denominations.
Prior to Vatican II, the Papacy labeled Christian groups who rejected papal primacy (and particularly those who maintained the doctrine of Justification by Faith) “schismatics and heretics,” and “anathema” (accursed), subsequent to decrees of the anti-Protestant and anti-Reformation Council of Trent.
Unitatis Redintegratio introduced new inclusive language, now referring to the same groups as “separated brethren.” This reversal in position and language marked a significant change in papal strategy, serving no logical purpose for the Vatican but to establish a passive form of spiritual control over all Christian groups outside of Catholicism.
Implementation of the Decree
To implement the decree, the Papacy established the Secretariat for Promoting Christian Unity in 1960 in anticipation of Vatican II. It was renamed the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity in 1988, and again in 2022 as the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity (DPCU). Its sole mission is to impose theological dominance over Christian denominations through persistent ecumenical dialogue leading to doctrinal compromises.
Through the mandate of Unitatis Redintegratio and the effective work of the DPCU with major ecumenical groups such as the World Council of Churches and others, the Papacy is successfully merging all non-Catholic Christian denominations with itself in anticipation of the one-world universal religion of Mystery Babylon.
The Interreligious Movement
Convergence Under Rome
The work of Vatican II did not stop at uniting Christian denominations. The world’s major pagan religions were the next targets of the council, with further position changes to the Papacy’s historical stances resulting in the modern “interreligious movement.”
Religions previously condemned by the Papacy as satanic and enemies of Catholicism were given a renewed designation as legitimate, containing elements described as “true and holy” that “often reflect a ray of that truth which enlightens all men and women.”
This further adds the reaction of Rome to merge all religions into a centralized, one-world religion manifesting in Mystery Babylon or the “great whore” of Revelation 17:1 KJV. The key mechanism used to consolidate the pagan religions is the Vatican II decree Nostra Aetate—Declaration on the Relationship of the Church to Non-Christian Religions.
Nostra Aetate
The Vatican II decree, Nostra Aetate (In Our Time), promulgated on October 28, 1965, extended Rome’s tentacles over the world’s non-Christian religions, opening interreligious dialogues with Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Nostra Aetate works to blend contradicting religions into a controlled system by softening theological distinctives through principles of religious pluralism and mutual understanding.
In a historic reversal, Nostra Aetate abandoned Rome’s historic position on the Jews, no longer seeing them as accursed of God in rejection of the Gospel, but instead validating them as God’s chosen people in active covenant, exempt from conversion, and not to blame for the condemnation and death of Jesus Christ.
Islam, a historic enemy of the Papacy, was also granted a renewed position under Nostra Aetate in this statement: “The Church regards with esteem also the Moslems. They adore the one God, living and subsisting in Himself; merciful and all-powerful, the Creator of heaven and earth.” This is reaffirmed in chapter 16 of Lumen Gentium, the dogmatic constitution on the church, with both documents validating Islam as a legitimate pathway to God, thereby affirming the false prophet Muhammad’s delusions recorded in the Quran.
Implementation of the Decree
To implement the decree, the Papacy established the Secretariat for Interreligious Dialogue in 1964, later renamed the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue in 1988, and now the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue (DID) since 2022. Similar to the DPCU, the DID’s mission is to establish spiritual dominance over the world’s major religions through persistent interreligious dialogue.
Catholic-Islamic relations are handled by a dedicated body under the DID called the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims, while Catholic-Jewish relations are handled under the oversight of the DPCU by the Commission for Religious Relations with the Jews. These commissions act with concentrated efforts to submit Judaism and Islam to the spiritual authority of the Papacy.
This significant shift in papal strategy set aside centuries of Catholic tradition and authoritative doctrinal positions set forth by ecumenical councils, popes, and Catholic theologians. These reversals have exposed serious hypocritical contradictions within the Papacy, revealing its true intent to consolidate world religions and establish universal dominance at all costs, even if it means cannibalizing its own ideological positions.
The Great Whore
Who is the Great Whore?
The one-world religion is described in Revelation 17 as a “great whore” because of its practice of assimilating pagan religions and ideologies into itself, equating to spiritual fornication. This is a core characteristic of the Roman Catholic Papacy, which is the survival of the classic Roman Empire—itself being an amalgamation of the major world empires before it, beginning with ancient Babylon.
The Bible says in the Book of Revelation:
And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.
The Papacy’s historical practice of assimilating pagan religions was ideologically justified and performed under the motif of baptism. To more easily impose the Roman Catholic system on pagan nations, the strategy of “baptizing” their practices, rituals, symbols, and legends was deployed en masse in their missionization efforts.
Instead of repudiating pagan belief systems entirely through the revelation of Christ and the truth of Scripture, the Papacy absorbed them into itself, reconfiguring them under Christian themes, and retaining them in a Catholicized form. This exposes the true nature of Catholicism as a spiritual whore that fornicates with the world’s pagan religions.
In modern times, the two papal decrees Unitatis Redintegratio and Nostra Aetate have essentially merged Roman Catholicism, Evangelical Christianity, and world paganism through the convergence of the ecumenical and interreligious movements. As the Papacy is directing both movements toward a universal religion through spiritual fornication, it is positively identified as the prophesied “great whore” described in Revelation 17.
The Whore Identified
Our passage above reveals three key actions of the whore. Firstly, it says the whore “sitteth upon many waters.” The Bible tells us, “The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues” (Revelation 17:15 KJV). This describes the Papacy’s universal reach and establishment across the world’s people groups and nations through its complex spiritual, educational, and societal framework.
Secondly, it says the whore is an organization “with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication.” The Bible reveals, “And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:18 KJV). This describes the Papacy’s historical practices of dominating kingdoms and sovereign governments through priestcraft and political subversion via the Vatican—called here “that great city.”
Lastly, the passage says, “the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.” The Bible states the whore has “a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication” (Revelation 17:4 KJV). This describes the Papacy’s sins of spiritually intoxicating the world’s people with its corrupted teachings and filthy idolatry rooted in their assimilation of paganism.
Outward Adornments
The whore is further identified in the Book of Revelation by her specific adornments and unique name inscribed on her forehead.

Purple and scarlet clothing, and adornment of gold, precious stones, and silver are mentioned above as outward identifying markers of the whore. In the Apostle John’s context, purple and scarlet were commonly understood as the colors worn by royalty and religious officials. Purple and scarlet are the colors of the vestments of priests, bishops, and cardinals, exclusive to the Roman Catholic priesthood.
The Papacy also possesses excessive wealth in its outward adornments, including the gold, precious stones, and pearls described above. This is seen in the internal decoration of key cathedrals like the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica and Rome’s St. John Lateran. It is also observed in major Catholic shrines and in treasury items like crowns, papal tiaras, venerated relics, reliquaries, iconic images, and adorned crosses.
The Roman priesthood and the Pope himself explicitly uses a golden cup as described above to perform their ritual of mass, which embodies all of their abominable idolatries in the doctrine of transubstantiation. The Roman Mass does not originate from the Lord’s Supper, but rather is the reconfiguration of the Roman sacrificial system into a repeatable Christian themed ritual performed each Sunday in Catholic churches.
Mystery Babylon the Great
Spiritual Babylon
The name “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” reveals the whore’s true identity in several key statements and admissions.
Firstly, she is shrouded in the mystery of the ancient Babylonian religious system in the first title section of “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT.” The most explicit example of the assimilation of the Babylonian religion in Catholicism is the undue exaltation of Mary, the mother of Jesus, that permeates Catholic worship.
The excessive worshipful emphasis on Mary in Catholic theology constitutes idolatry, with Mary exalted to a dominant position over Jesus Christ as the “Mother of God.” Catholicism gives Mary several exalted titles like this, including the “Queen of Heaven,” a title officiated by Pope Pius XII in the 1954 encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam.
The Bible says in the Book of Jeremiah,
The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.
The title “Queen of Heaven” is directly linked to ancient Babylon as this is the same title given to the Babylonian fertility goddess Ishtar. The worship of the “Queen of Heaven” is mentioned in the Book of Jeremiah above as an object of Israel’s sacrificial idolatry and apostasy characterized as one of their many abominations.
Flowing from this is the ancient Assyrian-Babylonian queen–consort turned mother–son worship seen in Catholic devotion and imagery of the baby Jesus and the Madonna (Virgin Mary). This is a survival of the Babylonian Ishtar and Tammuz fertility cult that also was an object of Israel’s apostasy as noted in the Book of Ezekiel.
He said also unto me, Turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations that they do. Then he brought me to the door of the gate of the LORD’s house which was toward the north; and, behold, there sat women weeping for Tammuz.
The “weeping for Tammuz” ritual was a time of observed mourning or weeping for Tammuz, the Babylonian agricultural fertility shepherd-god. The legend claims Ishtar descended to the underworld but was revived when Tammuz was substituted in her place. He was then himself resurrected in spring, symbolizing the securing of a prosperous harvest cycle.
The weeping ritual was performed by women to lament his death and hasten his resurrection, thus securing the harvest. This idolatrous ritual was performed in the historical apostasy of Israel during the period of the Old Testament split-kingdom, and now survives in a reformatted version in the Catholic ritual season of Lent.
These biblically identified parallels and many others woven into the identity of the Roman Catholic religion confirm its spiritual identity as the literal “MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT” described in Revelation 17:5 (KJV). This identity aligns perfectly with the remaining section of its name: “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.”
Mother of Harlots and Abominations
The Scriptures characterize the “great whore” firstly as “THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS” in the remainder of its name, revealing the whore’s practice of duplicating its characteristics into its “harlot” daughters. The word “daughters” in prophetic language denotes the people, cities, or nations originating from the mother nation, such as the “daughter of Tyre,” “daughter of Babylon,” or “daughter of Jerusalem.”
This reveals the people, organizations, and nations aligned with the whore are identified as its harlot daughters, as they all carry their mother’s characteristics of spiritual fornication and idolatry. This is the only logical conclusion, as those tracing their roots to the Catholic mother church in the Vatican inherit the characteristics (or genetics) of their mother.
Revelation 17 also names the great whore the mother of the “ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH,” with the KJV Bible using the word “abomination” as an explicit synonym for graven images and idols. This fits the character of the Papacy in the same way as it is a notorious promoter of idolatry, false doctrine, superstitions, and paganized ritualism, all rooted in the earthly and demonic philosophies of ancient Babylon.
Upon close examination, there is not one practice of the Papacy that is not rooted in pagan superstition, idolatry, and overt twisting of the Scriptures. Key examples have been highlighted above, but no clearer example exists than the Christmas deception, where the extravagant amalgamation of abominable Babylonian paganism and idolatry prevails within a sophisticated papal tradition that is heavily embedded in the secular world.
The Babylonian Empire
Nimrod and Babel
The Babylonian religion traces its roots to the post-flood world detailed in the Book of Genesis, where the first united world empire developed under the leadership of Nimrod, the Cushite king of Babel and “hunter before the LORD” (Genesis 10:9 KJV). His kingdom also extended to several other territories in ancient Mesopotamia, including the biblical “land of Shinar” (Genesis 10:10 KJV), now equated to modern-day Iraq.
The famous Tower of Babel narrative in Genesis 11:1–9 (KJV) gives us a biblical snapshot of the height of Nimrod’s reign as head of an ancient United Nations-like kingdom, until God acted to supernaturally disband the people groups by creating a language barrier and geographically scattering them to ensure physical separation from one another.
The Epic of Gilgamesh
Mid-19th-century archaeological discoveries unearthed artifacts containing several ancient Mesopotamian legends of the Early Dynastic Sumerian period, including the Epic of Gilgamesh. Written on clay tablets, the Epic of Gilgamesh is the narrative of an ancient Sumerian ruler named Gilgamesh, who scholars place as the biblical Nimrod.
Biographical similarities between Nimrod and Gilgamesh are confirmed in the Epic, as both were post-flood empire-building kings characterized as hunters and antagonistic to divine authority. The ancient Babylonian religion defined in the record was an anthropomorphic polytheistic system featuring a vast pantheon of up to 4,000 deities, organized as a divine assembly, with Gilgamesh described as two-thirds divine and later fully deified.
The theological narrative viewed the universe as a divine creation sustained by the ongoing work and will of the gods, with humans created as servants to alleviate their worldly toil. The religious and biographical framework detailed in Gilgamesh parallels the Genesis account of Nimrod and forms the universal archetype of the Babylonian religious system traced through to the time of Nebuchadnezzar II.
The Neo-Babylonian Empire
Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon
The Bible outlines the reign of Nebuchadnezzar II most vividly in the accounts of the Prophet Daniel and prophet Jeremiah as the key antagonist in the destruction of Judah and Jerusalem, and the instigator of the Babylonian Exile. The books of 2 Kings, 2 Chronicles, Ezekiel, Ezra, and Nehemiah all provide supporting information about Nebuchadnezzar’s historical entanglement with Judah, providing a full narrative of events.
Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon mirrored that of Nimrod’s Babel, building on key themes of theocratic despotism established in Genesis 10–11 and detailed in the Epic of Gilgamesh. The polytheistic character of the Neo-Babylonian Empire is well documented, and its record of conquest in the Middle East and Levant is historically verified.
The Head of Gold
The Book of Daniel clearly exposes Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon as the monolithic head of four successive world empires that would form the end-times governmental Beast System or “fourth kingdom” that would partner with a universal religious system in the last days.
The Bible reveals in the Book of Daniel:
This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. Thou, O king, art a king of kings: for the God of heaven hath given thee a kingdom, power, and strength, and glory. And wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the heaven hath he given into thine hand, and hath made thee ruler over them all. Thou art this head of gold. And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee, and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, interpreted by the Prophet Daniel, reveals that the Babylonian system would undergird the three successive empires of Persia, Greece, and finally the Roman Empire as a consolidated political, religious, and cultural system.
The fall of Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon during his descendant Belshazzar’s reign came at the hands of Cyrus of Persia, with Persia being subsequently conquered by the Greek empire of Alexander the Great, with his kingdom then amalgamated by Rome after fragmentation.
History proves that the imperial and spiritual substance of Babylon, Persia, and Greece was concentrated into the imperial Roman Empire as prophesied in Scripture. Each system transmitted explicit imperial and religious elements from Babylon to Rome, providing the Apostle John with the prophetic imagery detailed in the Book of Revelation.
The Babylonian Archetype
One Ancient System
The religious archetypes rooted in ancient Sumer–Babylon prevailed and survived through cultural transference of the myths, legends, and cult practices. This tells us that one dominant system of false religion created in ancient Babylon is the archetype for all false religions of similar substance throughout world history.
In practice, we see a range of altered expressions of the same Babylonian religion with certain elements surviving more or less depending on which religion, geographical location, and time period is examined. This is explained by the syncretic character of ancient polytheism, where gods, idols, myths, and legends are shared and adapted to each nation.
The Archetype Defined
The universal despotic ruler turned deified god archetype as seen in the Nimrod–Gilgamesh narratives persisted, with Gilgamesh deified and an entire religious cult dedicated to his worship established and perpetuated following his death. In ancient Akkad, Mesopotamia, the archetypical ruler Sargon of Akkad was held as semi-divine during his lifetime and carried a similar kingly profile as Gilgamesh.
The core god–goddess archetype of Babylon found in the Inanna and Dumuzi narrative continued as Ishtar and Tammuz in subsequent Babylonian–Akkadian cultural iterations. This archetype survived down through the ages as ancient polytheistic empires and cultures in the Middle East interacted and syncretized various elements over time.
Through processes of linguistic adaptation, religious syncretism, and imperial transmission, this archetypal system persisted and transformed across the ancient Near East and Mediterranean for more than two millennia, appearing in various forms.
Key historical examples include the Sumerian Inanna–Dumuzi, Akkadian–Babylonian Ishtar–Tammuz, Canaanite Astarte–Baal, Phoenician–Levantine Astarte–Adonis, Syrian Atargatis–Hadad, Egyptian Isis–Osiris–Horus, and ultimately the Hellenistic–Roman cults of Aphrodite–Adonis, Isis–Osiris/Sarapis, and Cybele–Attis.
The Roman Empire
Amalgamation of Empires
The historical Roman Empire of the Caesars played a pivotal role in the final amalgamation of successive ancient world empires listed in the Book of Daniel, from Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon (Neo-Babylonian Empire) to Alexander the Great’s vast Hellenistic Greek empire.
The classical Roman Empire began in 27 BC with Caesar Augustus, following the effective destruction of the Roman Republic by his adoptive father, the dictator Gaius Julius Caesar. This marks the beginning of the classical Roman Empire with emperor rule and the full consolidation of all territorial powers belonging to the former empires.
Caesar Augustus is noted in Luke 2:1 (KJV) as the Roman emperor who commanded a census for imperial taxation at the time of Jesus’ birth. Tiberius Caesar, the successor of Augustus, is also noted in Luke 3:1 (KJV) as the emperor in the “fifteenth year” of his reign when John the Baptist and Jesus appeared.
This confirms the historical presence of the Roman Empire in Israel at the time of Christ as the imperial controller of the Levant after the full amalgamation of Alexander the Great’s fragmented kingdom. The Roman Empire was now what the Prophet Daniel saw as the “fourth kingdom” and “fourth beast.”
The Fourth Beast of Rome
The Prophet Daniel revealed the rise of this unified world empire he called the “fourth beast,” with the Apostle John expanding this vision in the Book of Revelation.
After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns.
And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
What we see here is the progressive development of a colossal world empire commencing with Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon and culminating in the classical Roman Empire as seen in great detail by the Prophet Daniel.
Imperial Rome is then seen by the Apostle John in its future state as a satanically empowered political world empire combined with an elaborate and deceptive religious system called “the great whore” and “Mystery Babylon” that we have identified as the Roman Papacy’s one-world religion.
So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.
What we are witnessing now is the formation of the final end-times religio-political control system that will arise to full power during the coming 7-year tribulation. This system is now emerging in the one-world religion being formed by the Roman Papacy and the one-world governmental infrastructure being built by the United Nations and its partners.
The Roman Religion
Anthropomorphic Polytheism
The religion of the Roman Empire was a complex polytheistic system in which a vast pantheon of anthropomorphic gods was worshiped at the state, provincial, and household levels. It was a layered system containing diverse elements from traditional Roman polytheism to the adoption of numerous minor deities and foreign mystery religion cults.
Romans inherited and adapted gods from earlier Italian traditions, heavily influenced by Greek mythology, with Roman equivalents like Jupiter for Zeus, Juno for Hera, and Mars for Ares. The major deities included the Capitoline Triad of Jupiter (king of gods), Juno (protector of women and marriage), and Minerva (wisdom and war). From 274 AD, Emperor Aurelian designated Sol Invictus, the Sun god, as the chief deity of the empire.
As explored earlier, the Roman Empire absorbed the Babylonian religious archetypal and imperial systems over the course of prophetic history. Due to this, the Babylonian mystery religion cult traditions carried over into Rome, with the explicit example of the Ishtar and Tammuz cults appearing in their Roman forms in syncretic continuity with Babylon.
At the fundamental level, a highly tolerant religious pluralism persisted throughout the empire due to the polytheistic character of the ancient world prior to the rise of Christian exclusivity. This meant the embedded societal worship of numerous gods and idols was commonplace, and the monotheistic exclusivity of Christianity was a radical ideology.
The Imperial Cult
Another key and highly significant component of the Roman religion was the imperial cult, which systematized posthumous deification and worship of the Roman Caesars and later emperors. In selected cases, particularly in Rome, living Caesars were semi-deified during their lifetime, but it was limited to their “genius” or protective divine spirit.
This created an environment where Roman emperors were set for divine status, with an entire posthumous cult established following the death of emperors determined worthy by the Senate, officiating them as gods. This included temples, sacrifices, idols, and priesthoods in most cases, embedding the divinity of the emperors into the state religion.
The imperial cult rose uniquely with the Caesars and mirrored the divine ruler archetype of ancient and Neo-Babylon seen with Nimrod and Nebuchadnezzar. The essence of the imperial cult is now preserved in the Roman Papacy, with gradual transference of imperial and spiritual elements to the Popes following the fall of the Roman Empire in 476 AD.
In Catholic practice, the Pope is elevated to near-divine status in titles like “Holy Father” and “Vicar of Christ,” through doctrines including the keys of St. Peter (absolute temporal and spiritual power), papal infallibility, and through actions such as kissing the ring, kneeling or prostrating before him, and special posthumous veneration.
Alongside these and other numerous examples of veneration, each successive Pope exercises maximum emperor-like authority over the Vatican and Catholic faithful while employing a special diplomatic influence of their own in world politics, thus preserving the essence of the Roman imperial cult.
Pontifex Maximus
The emperors also adopted the title and office of the Pontifex Maximus, meaning “greatest bridge-builder” or “supreme pontiff,” making each successive emperor the high priest and supreme religious authority of the Roman religion. This title was held by the Roman high priest in the Republic era, but was first absorbed by Caesar Augustus in 12 BC.
As Pontifex Maximus, the emperor became the supreme authority over all Roman state religion, giving him control of all temples, festivals, priesthoods, and religious policy. This fused political and religious power in one person, reinforcing the emperor’s semi-divine status without overtly claiming godhood. This majorly strengthened the imperial cult, as the emperor was now the supreme authority of both religion and state.
The title was transferred to every emperor from Augustus until the Christian emperor Gratian (375–383 AD), who rejected it during his reign, associating it with paganism. This ended the formal use of the title until its readoption by the Papacy during the Renaissance period, beginning with the first documented usage by Pope Boniface IX in 1389 AD.
The Popes have used the Pontifex Maximus title exclusively since its readoption to formally tie them to the historical Roman Empire. They use the title in the same way as emperors did in exerting supreme religious authority, though Catholicized in meaning to reinforce their fraudulent claim as universal bishop of the entire Christian Church.
Today’s Popes carry the title, with the abbreviation PONT. MAX. used in papal documentation and in various contexts in the Vatican, such as on plaques, inscriptions, coins, medals, and manhole covers in St. Peter’s Basilica. The official nomenclature of the Papacy preserves the equivalent as Summus Pontifex Ecclesiae Universalis or “Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church.”
Christian Rejection of Idolatry
Early Church Persecution
The repudiation of Roman idolatry by the Early Church was the root cause of the general persecution of Christians and the state-led persecutions by Roman emperors such as Nero, Domitian, Diocletian, and Galerius. The Christian rejection of polytheism and emperor worship was seen as atheism and impiety, as Christians refused to worship and sacrifice to idols, which was perceived as having no allegiance to the gods and state.
Rejecting the gods and emperors was deemed an offense punishable by death, for which many Christians were persecuted and brutally martyred until the issuing of the Edict of Milan in 313 AD. Non-compromising Christians were given the most horrific capital punishments during persecutions for refusing to participate in Roman spirituality, including crucifixion, beheading (for Roman citizens), being burned alive, and death by exposure to wild animals such as dogs and lions.
Revived polytheism is key to understanding the spirit and intent of the end-times one-world religion of Mystery Babylon and the Beast System, which will also brutally martyr Christians who hold to the Word of God and reject the image and Mark of the Beast during the second half of the Great Tribulation.
Babylonian Persecution
Babylonian persecution against the Lord’s people is typified in the Book of Daniel where the three Hebrews refused to worship Nebuchadnezzar’s image and were cast into a superheated furnace as capital punishment (Daniel 3:20 KJV). Daniel himself was also cast into a den of lions for refusing to honor a decree that would force him to pray to King Darius, the new ruler of Babylon, and cease praying to the Hebrew God (Daniel 6:16 KJV).
The excessive bloodshed of Christians is a key characteristic of Mystery Babylon as seen by the Apostle John in the Book of Revelation.
And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.
This exposes the repeated bloodshed of the Lord’s saints by the Babylonian system from Nebuchadnezzar’s Babylon to the Roman Empire and beyond into the Papacy. As Babylon persecuted the Lord’s people such as the Prophet Daniel and His companions, so did the Roman Empire in its persecution of the Early Church.
The Papacy is overtly drunken with the blood of the saints, being historically guilty of brutal persecutions and executions of Bible believers in the Dark Ages, including key Protestant Reformers, Reformed and Protestant Christians, and the English Puritans.
Babylon’s crimes of bloodshed against the Lord’s people over the course of history are too many to detail, but they will not go unpunished. The Bible makes it clear that God will execute harsh and irreversible judgment upon Babylon in great vengeance for its crimes and innumerable abominations (Revelation 18:20–24 KJV)
United Nations Babylon
The Vatican–UN Connection
The emergence of the wider end-times Babylon system specified in Revelation 17 and 18 is seen in the existing partnership between the Vatican’s diplomatic entity, the Holy See, and the United Nations intergovernmental system.
The work of the United Nations in forming an interconnected global governance system is openly documented. What is lesser known is the robust connection between the Vatican and the United Nations through joint goals, agendas, projects, and initiatives.
The Holy See
The Holy See is the official diplomatic entity of the Papacy and exercises territorial sovereignty over the Vatican as an internationally recognized sovereign city-state enclaved in Rome, Italy. The Holy See engages in world politics and collaborates with the United Nations on specific agendas through unique influence.
The Holy See is not a formal member of the United Nations but has chosen permanent observer status to maintain formal separation while exercising spiritual and diplomatic influence. This allows the Papacy to remain separate and dominate the arrangement while framing it as one of cooperation, mutual respect, and collaboration.
This tactic is nothing new but rather a standard practice with all historical treaties, agreements, and formal arrangements the Papacy makes and has made with any external party over the course of history. The goal for the Papacy is to always exercise a one-way concentrated influence over the other party until its own agenda is implemented. This is exactly what is happening with the United Nations.
United Nations Babylon
The Holy See established its formal partnership with the United Nations through permanent non-member observer state status on April 6, 1964. This aligns with the promulgation of the Unitatis Redintegratio and Nostra Aetate ecumenical and interreligious decrees from Vatican II in 1964 and 1965.
What we discover here is the clear collaborative connection between the Roman Catholic Institution and the United Nations. This official connection runs deeper with numerous Catholic entities dedicated specifically to the advancement of Catholic-authored UN goals and agendas, especially those with a significant emphasis on global mass migration and demographic leveling.
Central to the Papacy’s plan for systematic restructuring of the world’s nations is the robust enablement of mass migration from third-world countries to the West. Mystery Babylon Revealed
Roman Catholicism
What we see in historic Roman Catholicism is the rise of Western Christianity as the Roman Empire’s state religion, beginning with favored status during the reign of Emperor Constantine and then officiated in 380 CE with the Edict of Thessalonica under Theodosius I, Gratian, and Valentinian II, leading to what the Book of Revelation describes as a woman sitting upon the beast (Revelation 17:3 KJV) in the eventual rise of the Papacy.
The Roman Catholic Papacy is the spiritual and imperial transmission of the classic Roman Empire and the organization in which the Babylonian religious archetype is now preserved. The essence of ancient Babylon persists in the reformatted idolatrous customs and doctrines of the Catholic religion as “the great whore” (Revelation 17:1 KJV).
Babylonian continuity is clear. Explicit examples include the exaltation of Mary as the Queen of Heaven akin to the Babylonian Ishtar, the Mary and Jesus mother–son cult as a continuation of the queen–consort turned mother-son cults of successive traditions from Babylon to Egypt, and the Popes with Caesar-like authority as Pontifex Maximus elevated to near-divine status mirroring the Babylonian divine emperors.
Modern biblical and prophetic scrutiny identifies the Catholic religion as something alien to Biblical Christianity and undoubtedly aligns it with Mystery Babylon the Great as prophesied by the Apostle John in Revelation 13 and 17—but it does not end there. Roman Catholicism is now in a transformation phase. It is now forming into the final manifestation of Mystery Babylon in the unified one-world religion.
One Final System
The ecumenical and interfaith movements of the Papacy are the mechanisms through which the ancient polytheism and religious pluralism of Babylon are being revived. The religious pluralism of Rome and Babylon demonstrated in polytheistic religion is prevailing once again in our time, which is the intended outcome of the Papacy’s ecumenism, interfaith, and interreligious activities.
Scripture informs us that this end-times religion merges with a unified governmental system to form the prophetic manifestation of Mystery Babylon the Great. This polytheistic unified religion undergirded by universal state power is the substance of ancient Babylon, and it is the very system that is now ascending out of the bottomless pit as prophesied by the Apostle John:
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not, and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.
The Apostle John here confirmed that the Beast System is not a new manifestation but a revival of something that previously existed. This final system of a global unified state and religion is the return of the historical Babylonian structure in modernized form. In John’s time, the system “was, and is not, and yet is,” meaning it existed in the past and currently does not exist, but at the same time does exist.
This agrees with the progressive spiritual nature of the Babylonian system that has taken different forms at different historical stages although it is something that has existed fully in the past. Evidently, over the Christian age, the full manifestation of this system was suppressed by the revelation of the Gospel, but its vestiges were preserved in the Roman Empire and subsequently in the Roman Papacy as Scripture has revealed.
The world is about to witness the arrival of Mystery Babylon the Great. It is the prophetic manifestation and revival of the Babylonian religion configured in an ecumenized and interreligious Roman Catholicism merged with the state power of the developing United Nations-led global government. This Babylonian system will reach maximum power and effectiveness during the second half of the Great Tribulation.
Projections and Trajectory
Several key prophetic events must take place in the lead-up to the full manifestation of Mystery Babylon, such as the building of a Third Hebrew Temple in Israel and the completion of the one-world economic system. We can undoubtedly see all system elements identified in Scripture developing toward global unification and interoperability.
In late 2025, the ecumenical and interfaith movements are making rapid progress, with key milestones such as the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea and the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate invigorating the efforts of ecumenism and interreligious cooperation. The Papacy’s religious unity initiatives persist, with a notable increase in ecumenical and interreligious efforts led by Pope Leo XIV by year’s end.
Efforts by the UN and its partners to establish global governance in the West are facing mounting resistance in backlash against mass migration and the push for digital control. Despite this pushback, efforts persist almost unhindered as sustained migration and the expedition of technological advancements through AI have enabled progress in key agendas such as demographic leveling, economic leveling, information censorship, and digital ID implementation.
Robust prophetic analysis indicates that an irreversible shift is approaching with the convergence of all elements gaining momentum. As we continue into 2026, we can expect to see a combination of consistent progress and expedited outcomes accelerating the Beast System’s rise. With increasing geopolitical instabilities and economic volatility present in the world today, we can also expect the Vatican and UN to exploit any created opportunities or potential events that may arise to advance the system.

Right now you are set to be unavoidably swept away by Mystery Babylon’s one-world religion and governmental system with absolutely no hope of escape. Without the salvation that is only found in Jesus Christ, you will certainly be deceived into accepting the Mark of the Beast, securing for yourself eternal fire (Revelation 14:9–11 KJV).
God is not willing that any person should perish but that all should come to repentance through faith in Jesus (2 Peter 3:9 KJV). Following this, pursue revelation and wisdom about how to shift to Christ-centered spiritual observance of the Seventh-day Sabbath and the Lord’s biblically ordained High Sabbath Feasts of Pesach (Passover), Shavuot (Pentecost), and Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles).
