God is Our Refuge: The Secret Place of the Most High

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
God is Our Refuge
Dwelling in Safety
Psalm 91:1–4 offers profound assurance of God’s protection. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty,” it begins.
Dwelling in God’s presence is a supernatural experience. It’s a constant abiding, a life rooted in trust. The “secret place” is deep intimacy in the presence of God, where we find safety under His mighty wings. In a world of chaos, His shadow is our unshakable refuge.
Our Shield and Fortress
The psalm continues, “I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” Declaring God as our refuge transforms our perspective. He’s not distant but personal, our fortress against life’s storms.
Trusting Him means leaning on His strength, not ours. When catastrophes or disasters arise, we proclaim His faithfulness, confident that He is our unshakable protector and defender in times of trouble.
Protected by His Truth
It further assures, “Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.”
God delivers us from hidden threats and sudden calamities. His divine power shelters us, and His Word shields us with the truth of His promises. His protection is both tender and strong, encasing us in safety.
Abiding in His Presence
Today, dwell in the secret place. Make God your refuge through prayer and trust. Speak His truth over your fears, and rest under His wings. His faithfulness is your shield, His presence your fortress. Abide in Him, and find peace in His supernatural protection.
OFG Prayer of Faith
Our Father in Heaven,
Thank You for being my refuge and fortress. Help me dwell in Your secret place, trusting the truth of Your Word and resting in Your protection. Cover me with Your supernatural power always.
In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
