We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

Vision in Prophetic Scripture

The Light of Prophecy

Second Peter 1:19–21 affirms the absolute reliability of God’s Word. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place,” it declares.

Prophecy is a divine light piercing the darkness of a fallen world. In times of confusion, obscurity, or doubt, the Bible’s prophetic content offers clarity and vision, guiding us until Christ, the Morning Star, returns.

A Divine Source

Peter continues, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” Prophecy’s authority rests not in human imagination but in God’s inspiration.

The Holy Spirit guided the prophets, ensuring their words were God’s truth. This divine origin makes Scripture trustworthy, a sure foundation for faith. We can rely on its promises, as they come from God Himself.

Heeding the Word

The passage urges us to “take heed” to this Prophetic Word. It’s not a passive suggestion but a call to active engagement. By studying, trusting, and acting upon Scripture, we align our lives with God’s predetermined plan.

The prophecies of Christ’s coming, His redemption, and His return anchor us in the certainty of our biblical faith. The prophetic word gives certainties, lighting our path in foreknowledge and strengthening our hope in God’s unfolding purpose.

Guided by Scripture

Today, let God’s prophetic Word be your light. In a dark world, trust its sure promises. Study Scripture diligently, knowing it’s God-breathed. Let the Holy Spirit guide you to live in its truth, confident in Christ’s return. Cling to God’s Sure Word, and walk boldly in its hope and guiding prophetic light.
